Activities of students

Under the guidance of Dr. Francis, you will design, program, and run an experiment to measure some aspect of visual perception or human computer interaction that is of interest to the lab. Many of the experiments are created with MatLab, so you will gain experience in working with MatLab and some related programs.

In addition to creating the experiment, you will be expected to read background material and to contribute to lab meetings.

You are expected to put in approximately 6 hours per week working on laboratory related projects. This need not be time actually spent in the lab room. It could be time reading material or looking up journal articles. If you are spending less time than that, you need to see me to discuss how to work harder. If you are spending more time than that, you may want to be certain this course is not interfering with other aspects of your life.

Activities of instructor

My responsibilities are to be certain you have projects to work on and that you gain practical experience working in a research laboratory. If you feel you are not being given enough to do (or are being given too much to do), please let me know.

Grades

Grading is based on performance in the laboratory. The goal of the semester is to completely design, program, and run at least one experiment. However, depending on how the project goes it may be appropriate to expect more or less than this goal. You grade is based primarily on the amount of effort you put forth and not on the final product.
